Concept of Self Reference

According to wikipedia "Self-reference is a phenomenon in natural or formal languages consisting of a sentence or formula referring to itself directly, through some intermediate sentence or formula, or by means of some encoding".

Few self referencing sentences are given below:

  • I'm the humblest person I know.

  • We never make misteaks.

  • 87.5% of all statistics are made up.

  • Here, take this placebo.

  • There are 10 types of people: those who understand binary and those who don't.

  • I never make predictions. I never have and I never will.

  • Which question is also its own answer?

  • Do not read this.

  • This page intentionally left blank.

  • This article in great because of that which was just stated.

In computer science concept of recursion is an example of self reference. Same in Java, C++ and PHP use of "this" keyword represents self reference.
